still have trouble with composition and lines, but I think I’ve made pretty big strides since 2009.

manga studio sketches \o/

Back in June, I flew halfway across the country for the first time so I could spend a week watching a movie about dragons, hanging out, and making inappropriate inside jokes/puns with a stranger I met on the internet six years ago.
During this time, sometimes this person would play Uncharted 2 while I sat next to her and drew stuff, and when I left, I promised to draw some fanart (because it’s actually a really pretty game).
chanceame…LOOK AT HIS BOTTOM!
(done in PSCS6 with a medley of brushes, mostly kyletwebster's)

"He must’ve just come from teaching archery. He had a quiver and bow slung over his #1 CENTAUR T-shirt. He’d trimmed his curly brown hair and beard for the summer, and his lower half, which was a white stallion, was flecked with mud and grass."

The Battle of the Labyrinth

the image was too good not to draw

he has a wonky lower half since I didn’t use a reference :d

I finished?????
I need to work on my tree- and foliage-drawing skills (also lighting?) and next time I’ll definitely do more thumb-nailing to pin down composition, but I’m pretty happy with my first test.

some centaur (and one horse) sketches, pretty much no references used. I wanted to get away from the usual resting/standing poses and it was a lot of fun!

Manga Studio 5 is actually pretty nice. It’s less intimidating than Photoshop (especially for doing lineart) because there isn’t an unlimited number of brushes to choose from, and the various inking tools are very smooth and sharp. I might put aside $20 and get it since the trial doesn’t let me save anything so that means screenshots until then ugh.

top: first attempt; Gilla being silly
middle: second attempt; Terence and Gareth being tough bros
bottom: “Astrid Ellison had changed”. - Fear by Michael Grant (no it isn’t a httyd au)

Dramatic lighting is fun.

I find a lot of reassurance and entertainment in redoing/revisiting old art work.

Three years difference, and I didn’t even put 100% effort into it

now time for bed
